I just signed up, what happens next?

Thanks for signing up for Chronicle! Now that you've added Chronicle to your Slack workspace, you should see a new private channel (sometimes referred to as private groups) that's been created and you've been invited to, likely called #chronicles. Inside it, you'll see a message from Chronicle explaining the events it will monitor for, such as an app being added to your workspace, or a user creating a public link for a file. You can manage what events you see under the "Events" page in the Chronicle dashboard.

Alongside these events, Chronicle will also start to monitor messages in public channels for any instances of passwords or credit cards being shared publicly. These alerts will also be sent to the #chronicles channel, representing a new historical log of all events that occur in your workspace. You can configure these message rules, such as enabling profanity monitoring, under the "Messages" page in the Chronicle dashboard. You can also add your own message rules to alert you for any mention of specific keywords or phrases, or use powerful regular expression patterns for fine-tuned monitoring.

Alongside these alerts, you'll find three tools under the "Channels" page to help you archive any inactive channels that you don't use any more:

  • Inactive Channel Scanner: The inactive channel scanner lives in the web dashboard and provides an interactive way to view when each of your channels last had activity, as well as an easy way to bulk archive these channels.
  • Scheduled Inactive Channel Reports: Chronicle can automatically prepare and send reports on a recurring basis to the Slack #chronicles channel, letting you and other admins know when channels become inactive, allowing you to quickly act upon the results and archive channels as they become inactive.
  • Inactive Channel Notifications: Upon discovering an inactive channel, Chronicle can automatically send an alert to you or that channel, letting you know that the channel is inactive, and after a period elapses without any activity it will automatically archive the channel. The archival process can be configured by members of the channel or you on a per-channel basis via Slack alerts.

Finally, all of these features have more settings in the dashboard that allow you to finetune Chronicle to your needs. Within each page, you'll also find a record of all events that have occurred in your workspace with tools to analyze and filter events to a specific timeframe.

After signing up, you've also started a 30-day free trial for a full Chronicle subscription. If there's ever any questions we can answer or anything we can help with, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

But for now, the hard part is over, and you can sit back and let Chronicle take care of staying on top of your workspace for you.
